Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner is currently the toast of the tennis world after winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and that trophy has not only boosted his bank balance, but it also resulted in a big increase in the number of people who follow him on Instagram.
The 22-year-old Italian became tennis’ newest major winner when he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final at Melbourne Park.
For his efforts, Sinner walked away with the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup and a winner’s cheque of A$3,150,000 (roughly US$2,053m) while the number of followers on his Instagram account also swelled significantly.
Sinner had just over 1,4m followers at the start of the season-opening Grand Slam, but that tally grew to 1,9m when the tournament drew to an end on January 28 – up by 470,000.
His follower account has since passed the two-million mark as it stood at 2.2m on February 1.
This is good news for Sinner as the value of a sponsored Instagram post also increased and he can charge between $16.3K – $19.5K per post, as per research conducted by KingCasinoBonus.uk and Social Blade.
According to the Inzpire.me Instagram pricing calculator, one post and one story from Sinner could reach 361.6K followers, create 442.1K post impressions and 111.7K story impressions, and generate an average engagement rate of 16.5%.
This is also good for players’ long-term sponsors with the likes of Nike, Gucci, Alfa Romeo and Lavazza will try to cash in.
Australian Open women’s champion Aryna Sabalenka also saw an increase in her followers on the social media platform as she started the tournament with 1.2m followers, but that has jumped to 1.5m.
The world No 2 can ask $12.3K – $14.8K for 1 post and 1 story and that sponsored content is expected to reach 274.3K followers.
“These tennis stars wield considerable influence not only on the court but also through social media. By leveraging their large following, they will be able to amplify their presence and promote tennis globally,” Ionut Marin, chief editor of KingCasinoBonus.uk, said.
“It will be interesting to see what sponsorship deals come out of their success and if they can all replicate or improve their performances at the next Grand Slam.”
