Darts prodigy Luke Littler has achieved a significant milestone off the oche, finally passing his driving theory test. The news, which came after a series of setbacks, marks a major step towards him getting his full driver’s license and hitting the road in a car he already owns.
A New Victory
The 18-year-old, who has captivated the darts world since his stunning run to the PDC World Darts Championship final, took to social media to share his success. The announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulations from fans who have followed his journey both on and off the board. His victory in the driving test comes as a welcome relief after what he has described as a challenging process.
Littler has been candid about his struggles with the theory test, admitting to having failed it at least five times before his recent success. “I did do a theory the other week but I didn’t put it on my Instagram,” he said, speaking a few days before he passed. “Oh, it was a bad one. It was a bad one. I’ll let you know that.” His honesty about the difficulty of the test, a common struggle for many aspiring drivers, made his eventual pass even more relatable.
A Tale of Two Tests
The young champion’s driving journey has been a study in contrasts. While he’s a master of precision and focus at the oche, the rules of the road have proven to be a different kind of opponent. Ironically, he initially struggled with the hazard perception part of the exam, which requires quick reactions and anticipation, skills he demonstrates effortlessly in his sport. “When I first started it, I couldn’t pass the hazard, and now I can’t pass the theory,” he explained. “So I’m getting the questions now, not the hazard.” This mental block with the multiple-choice section was the final hurdle he had to clear before he could move on.
On his successful attempt, the results were a testament to his perseverance. While he “breezed through” the hazard perception section, earning an impressive 63 out of 75, he only just scraped by on the multiple-choice questions, achieving the required pass mark of 43 out of 50. It was a close call, but a pass is a pass.
The Road Ahead
With the theory test now behind him, Littler is eager to move on to the practical exam. He has been open about his motivation to get his license, revealing that he has a car ready and waiting for him. “I’ve got a car. It’s sat there waiting,” he shared. The car, which he confirmed is not a Mercedes, is a symbol of his newfound independence and the next chapter in his life. The darts sensation has amassed well over £1.5 million in prize money and secured lucrative sponsorship deals since his emergence 18 months ago, making him one of the most financially successful young athletes in the UK.
Despite the excitement of his driving milestone, the young star has little time to celebrate. He is already jetting off to Hungary to compete in the Hungarian Darts Trophy in Budapest, proving that his focus remains firmly on his darts career, even as he navigates new challenges off the stage.
