The 2024 Swiss Indoors in Basel will take place from October 21st to 27th, and the prize money distribution for the tournament has been released.
This year’s iteration of the Swiss Indoors promises to be excellent viewing. Ben Shelton, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Felix Auger-Aliassime are among the players on the entry list for the ATP 500 event.
Auger-Aliassime has won the last two editions of the Swiss Indoors in Basel, beating Hubert Hurkacz in a tight final last year to retain his title. It had been a rough 2023 for the Canadian until that moment, making it a significant triumph for him.
Roger Federer used to dominate his home tournament, winning it ten times. Novak Djokovic, John McEnroe, Juan Martin Del Potro, and Marin Cilic, who became the lowest-ranked ATP title winner ever, are other players who have won the tournament.
The stature of those winners shows the regard that the Swiss Indoors is held. Its prestige has continued to grow since 1970, when one of the ATP Tour’s oldest tournaments was first played.
Prize money across tournaments on the ATP and WTA tours has grown significantly since 1970. The Swiss Indoors is no exception, with a substantial prize money pot of 2,385,100 to be distributed this year.
€446,045 and 500 points will be awarded to the champion of the 2024 Swiss Indoors in Basel. That financial reward is over €30,000 more than the €410,660 given to Auger-Aliassime for winning last year’s iteration of the event in Switzerland.
The amount this year’s Swiss Indoors runner-up will receive is also higher than in 2023. €239,990 is on offer for the second-best player in Basel, as well as 330 ranking points.
There is also an impressive reward for the players who lose in the semifinals of the 2024 Swiss Indoors. Those men will walk away from the tournament with 200 ranking points and €127,900 more in their bank accounts.
The race for the ATP Finals could be on a knife edge by the time the Swiss Indoors begins, although that depends on the results during the Asian swing and the opening week of the indoor hardcourt season that precedes the start of the event in Basel.
However, securing the points given to the champion, runner-up, or semifinalists at the 2024 Swiss Indoors could be the difference between players qualifying for the ATP Finals or narrowly missing out on a place in Turin.
Even the 100 points accumulated from reaching the quarterfinal of the 2024 Swiss Indoors could be important for the players fighting for a place at the ATP Finals. The four defeated quarterfinalists will also receive €65,345.
Losing in the round of 16 would be disappointing for the top players on the entry list, but any victory obtained at an ATP 500 tournament is crucial to lower-ranked players, especially those who came through qualifying to reach the main draw.
That makes the 50 points and €34,880 handed to the men who lose in the round of 16 valuable. No ranking points are given to players who lose in the first round, but they will still receive €18,605.
