Simona Halep arrived in Cluj, where she will play a demonstration match at the Sports Festival, on June 15.
Halep was received at the airport with flowers by Emil Boc, the mayor of Cluj. She will team up, on Saturday, with Andrei Pavel, and will play against the Steffi Graf – Andre Agassi pair.
This year’s edition of the Sports Festival features Simona Halep. If last year the main event was the match of the legends of the Romanian national team against the legends of Galatasaray, now the main attraction is a tennis match.
Halep will play alongside Andrei Pavel against two world tennis legends, Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi. Simona, who played only two official matches since the reduction of the suspension for doping, will perform after a one-month break. She was injured in the first round of the Trophee Clarins against McCartney Kessler.
“I feel good, I’m glad to have returned to Cluj. The reception is superb. I’m not an expert in doubles, I trust Andrei. We are playing with two tennis legends and it will be something special”, said Simona Halep in Cluj, at the airport.

After the event in Cluj, Simona Halep will be waiting for a few days. She will find out on June 19 if she gets a wild card at Wimbledon. It would be her first appearance at a Grand Slam tournament since the 2022 US Open, the competition at which she tested positive for roxadustat.
Simona Halep has a chance to receive a wild card at the tournament at the All England Club, as announced by the organizers. “Once a player has served any doping ban they are free to compete on the circuit and the Committee will take their performance into account,” said Wimbledon President Deborah Jevans.
