Jannik Sinner qualified in the 3rd round at the Australian Open 2024, after a convincing victory against Dutch Jesper De Jong. The young Italian champion analyzed the challenge at the press conference, finding one of the keys to his victory in his serve. Sinner also shared praise for De Jong.
“It was new to play with him, he came from the qualifiers, he had won matches, I started very carefully. He is a very good player, he is a young man and by playing in this way he will be able to play many other matches in the main draws of the Slams. However I played well, I served well, it was a good match.
After the first round match against Van de Zandschulp I think today I improved my level, I felt better on the court, with the roof closed it’s a bit different and I really like these conditions. Obviously it’s part of the tournament and when it rains you need to know how to adapt to a different situation. I have to always try to improve even if today I think I did very well and managed to stay calm during the match,” he explained.
Jannik also talked about the athletic work he is carrying out in the gym: “My athletic trainer is very good at mixing the various exercises to be carried out, he knows what I may need later in the game and therefore I really like working with him.
Then obviously I am a tennis player, I like playing tennis and this is the reason why I chose to do this sport. Sometimes when you’re tired it’s hard to go to the gym but since it’s the right way to improve you need to do it and keep going.”
The journalists present at the press conference in Melbourne asked Sinner again about his success in the Davis Cup last November: “I’m certainly being recognized more, the Davis Cup was a very important success, it was really nice to be part of all this . I’m happy with what I gave to the team and now I can’t wait for the Olympics to arrive and we’ll see how they go,” explained Sinner.

Sinner also joked about his physicality: “The team certainly gives me a lot of confidence in what the right decision is. Every day it gives me the chance to improve. This is what I tried to do two days ago and yesterday too. Tomorrow I have to new day off. I’m trying to get used to the rhythm of the game, obviously. I’m happy with my physicality right now. Of course, it’s a dream to have the physicality of Baywatch, but it’s good!”
