“I wanted to give a little update on my medical situation as I have been quite busy lately. Not the best news, but I wanted to share it.

I have been struggling with a knee injury for several months. It’s an injury I’ve never had before and it’s been a difficult one to manage and the pain persists.

It has been a very difficult time (almost two years) mentally and emotionally for me and the physical torment certainly doesn’t help. I decided to take the time to recover properly rather than train and play with pain.

My desire has always been to try to recover as quickly as possible, but I’m not a machine, I’m a human being and I need time to recover, after everything I’ve been through.

I’ll keep you posted and as always I want to thank you for your continued support. I hope to return to the field as soon as possible” , wrote Simona Halep on Instagram.

Simona Halep: ” I’ll be criticized, maybe, but I don’t see another player from Romania winning a Grand Slam. I’m honest and say I don’t see it “

The former WTA leader spoke about the future of Romanian tennis and does not think that we will soon see another athlete from our country winning a Grand Slam tournament.

“When do you think we will see another Romanian victorious in a Grand Slam tournament?” , Simona Halep was asked.

“It’s a difficult question, that it will be interpreted in many directions. I hope as soon as possible. It’s not easy… What can I say, it’s not easy and you have to have a chance.

You also have to be serious. You must also have a very strong desire and the necessary madness,”  said Simona Halep, for  stirileprotv.ro .

“Do you currently see a Romanian player?” , the athlete from Constanța was also asked.

“I will be criticized, maybe, but I don’t see it. I’m honest and I say I don’t see it.” , replied “Simo”.

Simona Halep  played in 5 Grand Slam finals in her career and won two of them:  Roland Garros 2018 and Wimbledon 2019.

Virginia Ruzici  is the only athlete from Romania who managed to win a Grand Slam tournament:  Roland Garros 1978.
