World number two Aryna Sabalenka believes that it is becoming more of a ‘Big Two’ than ‘Big Three’ as her performances have somewhat dipped in the recent past. The 25-year-old is often regarded as one of the best players currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles category alongside Poland’s Iga Swiatek and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina.
Sabalenka was recently quoted in a report where she admitted that her performances have dipped in the recent past but stated that she is happy to be a part of the ‘Big Three’ and is also hoping to maintain her levels in the coming months. “I feel that I have lowered the level a little within that hypothetical ‘Big Three’, this last month seems more like a Big Two (laughs),” she said. “However, I am happy to be part of this group. I hope to maintain my level and that things, they keep playing this way.”
Sabalenka had a brilliant start to her 2024 season but things have somewhat slowed down ever since she lifted the Australian Open for the second time after beating China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Since then, she has been knocked out of the Dubai Open after losing in the round of 32, Indian Wells after suffering a defeat in the round of 16, the Miami Open after losing in the round of 32 and the Stuttgart Open after suffering a defeat in the nail-biting contest in the quarterfinal. Sabalenka will now take part in the Madrid Open where she will play her second round match on Thursday.
