Jannik Sinner met with the legendary Spanish rally driver Carlos Sainz after his debut at the Monte-Carlo Masters. The Italian tennis player had a successful day at the Monte Carlo Country Club after defeating Sebastian Korda 6-1, 6-2, and advancing to the round of 16, where he will face Jan-Lennard Struff.
The world No. 2 had an overwhelming streak on hardcourts since the end of the 2023 season, but there were doubts about whether he could maintain the level on the clay swing. At least his first challenge went smoothly, as he secured an easy victory against a formidable opponent like Korda and reached the top 16.
After the match, Jannik Sinner had the opportunity to meet with rally driver Carlos Sainz, who attended the match and showed his support for Sinner. The Spanish driver, who competes for Scuderia Ferrari, expressed his admiration for the young tennis player and invited him to attend Formula 1 races after learning that Sinner is a fan.
The Monaco Grand Prix will take place in May, coinciding with the French Open. Sinner told Sainz that in case of a poor result at Roland Garros, he would travel to see him, while the Spanish driver jokingly said he hopes he won’t have to see him.
