The Italian player is trained by Darren Cahill (58 years old), Simona Halep’s former technician. He is the fourth Australian-trained athlete to achieve this feat.

Novak Djokovic will not play in the “quarters” at Roland Garros, due to a serious knee injury and risks missing the Olympic Games and participation in Wimbledon. Casper Ruud took advantage of his abandonment, who thus qualified for the semi-finals of the French competition. Another beneficiary is Jannik Sinner. The Italian qualified in the “ace box”, and from Monday he will be the new ATP leader, regardless of the result at Roland Garros.
“What can I say? First of all, it’s every player’s dream to become world number one. I’m sorry Novak retired, it’s disappointing for everyone for sure. I wish him a speedy recovery,” said the athlete from Italy.
The player has been working with Darren Cahill, Simona Halep’s former coach, since June 2022, and since then his rise has begun. The Australian will reach an impressive milestone as Jannik Sinner is the fourth athlete trained by him to reach the top spot in the ATP rankings, after Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi and Simona Halep.

Darren Cahill began his rise with Lleyton Hewitt in 2001, when the Australian player became the youngest world leader in tennis. Two years later he trained the one who would become the world’s oldest leader: Andre Agassi. The American was overtaken in 2018 by Roger Federer.
Simona Halep reached the WTA No. 1 in 2017, in the tournament in Beijing, but even if she was accompanied in China by Andrei Pavel, the Australian Cahill was her coach.
Simona Halep and Darren Cahill broke up in 2021, and after the athlete tried to collaborate with several Romanian technicians, she ended up with the French Patrick Mouratoglou.
