A select group of exceptional players have made their mark on the sport. Novak Djokovic, the defending champion, has solidified his legacy as the greatest tennis player of all time with a record 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
However, in modern tennis, financial success has become increasingly linked to athletic performance. Despite Djokovic’s impressive collection of titles, he often found himself ranked second among the sport’s highest earners.
But, in 2022, this dynamic shifted with Roger Federer‘s retirement, which led Djokovic to rise to the top position with a remarkable total of $38.4 million in combined on-court and estimated off-court earnings.
In 2023, the 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz from Spain surpassed Djokovic, claiming the top spot with an estimated income of $42.3 million, excluding taxes and agent fees.
Forbes recently unveiled its ranking of the highest-paid tennis players in 2024, with the top ten players collectively earning an estimated $246 million over the past year.
While this figure falls short of the record $343 million set in 2020—when Federer and Serena Williams alone contributed $142 million—it still indicates a significant increase in earnings for the sport’s elite athletes.
In another promising sign for the state of tennis, the top 10 tennis players are all under 26, with only Djokovic and Rafael Nadal outside their 20s.
It’s noteworthy to mention that tennis is the only major professional sport with comparable financial standing for male and female athletes, though it currently has only four women among the top 10 highest-paid tennis players in 2024.

Interestingly, Roger Federer, who was the highest-earning athlete in tennis from 2007 until his retirement, still continues to generate an impressive estimated income of $90 million annually.
