Tennis star Coco Gauff has the support of a special someone as she gears up for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The United States Tennis Association announced in June that Gauff was added to the Paris 2024 roster. The tennis Games begin July 27 and runs through Aug. 4, the release said.
While Gauff has not reveled the identity of who she’s dating, she told TIME in her April cover story that they’ve been together for about a year.
“This is my first real relationship,” she told the outlet.
“To just have someone to talk to who is not involved in tennis at all gives me a fresh perspective,” she added.
While his name is not publicly known, Gauff has sparingly shared tidbits about him.
Here’s what we know about her mystery boyfriend.
He’s from Atlanta
Gauff’s special someone is from Atlanta, she told Vogue in March and reconfirmed to TIME in April.
She is also from Atlanta, where she saw tennis greats like Venus and Serena Williams play and dominate the sport that inspired her.
“As a little girl, it was very important to see representation and see myself in players, especially in the field where it is predominantly white,” she said. “I don’t think I would have had the belief I could do it if it wasn’t for them.”
Her mom was his fourth grade teacher
Gauff told TIME in her cover story that her mom, Candi Gauff, was her boyfriend’s fourth grade teacher.
“My mom always said, if they’re bad in school, they’re probably bad as adults,” Candi Gauff told TIME. “He’s always been a smart, nice kid.”
He wants to be an actor and plays the guitar
Gauff told Vogue in her cover story that her boyfriend is currently in school and aspires to be an actor.
“He’s a very nice guy. He’s in school now. He’s about to apply for music school. He wants to be an actor and he plays the guitar,” she said.
Twitter knows who he is
At the time of her March Vogue piece, Gauff told the outlet that “people on Twitter found him two or three days ago.”
“I won’t respond and confirm if it’s him or not, but they caught me in the comments, so they know,” she said.
They talked the night before she won the 2023 U.S. Open
In her press conference after winning the 2023 U.S. Open in September, Gauff shouted out her boyfriend for helping her the night before she competed in the final match.
“I just called my boyfriend and I told him let’s talk until it was time to go to sleep,” she said. “So we spoke until 1:00 a.m. and then I went to sleep and I woke up this morning.”
He’ll probably attend her U.S. tournaments
Gauff told People June 25 that her boyfriend will likely be in attendance when she plays in the U.S.
“My boyfriend, he’ll probably come to maybe some tournaments in the U.S. It’s just a little bit easier than coming to Europe,” she said.
Gauff’s next U.S. match would be after the Olympics.
