And Wilander seems to have a very clear opinion: for him the favorite for the final success at Wimbledon is Carlos Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz is ready
The third Grand Slam of the season, Wimbledon, will start next Monday with the best players in the world battling for the most traditional trophy and one of the biggest on the ATP tour.
Carlos Alcaraz will arrive as the defending champion and one of the big favorites despite not adding many games this year on turf, but as the champion of the second Major of 2024, Roland Garros, who arrived practically without filming.
Mats Wilander explains the basics of his stance: “I think Carlos Alcaraz is the favourite for Wimbledon.
Alcaraz has already shown himself and the other players in the locker room as well as the whole world that he can do it”, he says referring to last year’s final against Novak Djokovic. The match allowed him to win the 2023 edition of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament on grass for the first time.
Speaking to Eurosport’s microphones, Mats Wilander has renewed his confidence in Carlos Alcaraz despite the defeat of the Spanish tennis player at the Queen’s by Jack Draper in the round of 16 rather than trust the world’s number 1 and winner of the Halle Jannik Sinner tournament.
