Novak Djokovic stated that he’s not in a hurry to find a new coach after recently splitting with Goran Ivanisevic.
Djokovic will play his first event without Ivanisevic this week at the Monte-Carlo Masters, and many are wondering how it will go. The Serbian hasn’t played that well so far this year, which adds to the intrigue, and on top of that, this is just his first clay event this year.
There are many questions but very few answers, but we’ll get some of them by the end of the week. Djokovic provided some ahead of his first match at the season’s first ATP Masters 1000 event on clay, telling Tennis TV that he’s not in a hurry to hire a new coach after splitting with Ivanisevic.
“Not at all. I’m not in a hurry at all. I’ve had a friendly relationship with Nenad Zimonjic for many years, I’ve known him since I was a kid. And he’s always helped me out as a mentor, as an older brother, really, as somebody that has been through a lot of things that I’m going through, that I was going through.”
Nenad Zimonjic, who is the former doubles world no. 1, will serve as a coach for Djokovic in this year’s Monte-Carlo Masters. Zimonjic watched him practice in Belgrade ahead of coming to Monaco, and he’s just a person Djokovic trusts a lot, tennis or otherwise.
“So that friendly relationship that we have is the reason why we are here today together. And we’ll see how it goes. This several weeks that we’ve been together have been really enjoyable for me on the court, and we don’t have any commitments, so let’s see how we progress.”
