Harry Styles Was Considered for a Role in the ‘Mean Girls’ Movie Musical

“I remember us going, could we ask, like, Harry Styles?” recalled Arturo Perez Jr., who directed the 2024 reboot of the 2004 comedy with Samantha Jayne

Harry Styles could have been “so fetch” in Mean Girls.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday, the movie musical remake’s directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. revealed that they had the “Watermelon Sugar” musician, 29, in mind for a particular role.

While speaking about some of the film’s most memorable lines and funniest moments, the pair brought up the role they were envisioning Styles for at one point.

“There are certain iconic lines where we would joke that there would be riots in the streets if it wasn’t in there. Like ‘You go, Glen Coco!’ Give the people what they want. Give me what I want! But when we were like, ‘Who’s Glen Coco?’” Jayne asked.

“Who can it be?” Perez interjected, adding: “I remember us going, could we ask, like, Harry Styles?”

Jayne agreed: “We were like Harry Styles could be Glen Coco!”

But, Jayne had a caveat. “Then we were like, hold on, we love to break the fourth wall: What if we are all Glen Coco? So, after 20 years, we can all feel like Glen Coco.” ( ATHR editor’s note clarified that the line is actually delivered straight to the camera and audience.)

Based on the 2018 Broadway musical of the same name, which was based on the 2004 film of the same name, the movie introduces audiences to a new generation of the Plastics.

Plans for the musical movie were initially announced in January 2020 by Tina Feywho wrote both the original film and musical.
