Andy Murray suffered his latest setback with a defeat to Benoit Paire at Open Sud de France Montpellier with the Frenchman getting his first win in 18 months on the main ATP Tour 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 as the former World No.1 remains to have questions surrounding his tennis future.
But on Tuesday night, he has hit back at the critics and those saying that he is tarnishing his legacy by carrying on while he sits without a win so far this season on the ATP Tour. He said that he will not quit and we will fight on to produce what he is capable of.
He said in his tweet that most would give up in his current situation, but he doesn’t work like that. Murray of course had a heroic effort to return the ATP Tour in the first place after having hip resurfacing which saved his career and allowed him to continue on when it looked like retirement was imminent.
After his latest defeat though, he was booed as he suffered defeat to Paire who has mainly plied his trade on the Challenger Tour since his decline and articles were written asking if it was the end to which Murray gave a defiant answer admitting that he knows he isn’t in a good place but vowed to put it right.
“Tarnishing my legacy? Do me a favour. I’m in a terrible moment right now I’ll give you that. Most people would quit and give up in my situation right now. But I’m not most people and my mind works differently. I won’t quit. I will keep fighting and working to produce the performances I know I’m capable of,” wrote Murray on X formerly known as Twitter.

Only Sir Andy Murray will know when and if !!!!! He was winning last season, and his children were there to watch him hold trophies on high. OK not Grand Slams, but he was beating much higher ranked players. Benoit Paire is a really odd player. He turns up when he feels like it, whether for a game, a set or sometimes, even a match. He is so indifferent, it makes him as impossible to play as it is to watch him……. Andy will return, but he certainly does not deserve to be booed. Shame on the crowd !!
