Berrettini is close to winning his third title in Stuttgart
Only in the first set did the Italian derby played in Stuttgart show balance. In the long run, however, Matteo Berrettini reaffirmed what are the hierarchies on grass, a surface capable of enhancing his qualities and making him one of the most dangerous tennis players on the circuit for all players.
The Italian reached his fourteenth final, his third at the Boss Open, and will be hunting for his ninth career title after handing a resounding 6-4, 6-0 victory to his compatriot. In the very German event, he could equal the record of Rafael Nadal, who triumphed on three occasions in Stuttgart: on two occasions when the tournament was still played on clay.
Matteo Berrettini defeated Lorenzo Musetti
Matteo Berrettini has taken advantage of the protected ranking to be directly in the main draw in Stuttgart: the Italian has so far forfeited 165 points, while tomorrow’s final act will put another 85 points up for grabs.
In case of a final victory, Berrettini would get significantly closer to the Top 50 of the ATP ranking.
Lorenzo Musetti actually started the match very well and immediately earned himself an important break point at the start. Berrettini responded present and cancelled out the 0-2 chance with the classic super forehand capable of leaving his opponents still.
In the next game, Musetti missed a comfortable forehand coming out of serve and gave up his serve. After having wasted a set point at 5-3, Berrettini warded off the dangers thanks to a series of incisive first serves and came back from 0-40, sending a clear message.
Probably nervous about the opportunities not capitalized on, Musetti lost his way in the second set of the game and was no longer able to update his score, cashing in a heavy bagel. A risky serve & volley and a bad forehand allowed the 28-year-old from Rome to gain 4-0 in a few minutes.
In the final act of the Boss Open – which will be played tomorrow on the Centre Court – Berrettini will face Jack Draper. The British player eliminated Brandon Nakashima with a double 6-3.
