Arsenal, hoping to overtake Manchester City, the defending champions, could not break down a stubborn Aston Villa side coached by Unai Emery, their former coach.

The Villains then scored twice in the last ten minutes to put a major dent on the Gunners’ title bid.

Leon Bailey tucked in a cross at the back post on 84 minutes to take the lead, before Ollie Watkins produced a chipped finish to stun the home crowd three minutes later.

The defeat sees Mikel Arteta’s side drop to second, two points behind Man City, and level on points with Liverpool.

In the other match of the day, Eberechi Eze scored in the 14th minute for Crystal Palace in their surprise win at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ramped up the pressure in the second period but could not breach Palace’s defence, consigning the Reds to a second defeat in four days.
