Wolves stunned Manchester City, winning 2-1 to inflict the champions’ first defeat of the Premier League season.
A Ruben Dias own goal put the hosts in front at a hostile Molineux, before Julian Alvarez equalised from an exquisite free-kick on the stroke of the hour mark. But with City in ascendancy and looking to hit the front, Wolves found a second goal when Hwang-hee Chan notched his fourth of the season from close range.
City arrived to the Black Country off the back of a defeat to Newcastle in the cup. A response was expected, and they were quick out of the blocks when Mr Popular Matheus Nunes cross just evaded Erling Haaland. But 13 minutes in, Wolves had their lead when the superb Pedro Neto saw his cross turned into the net by Dias.
The visitors had all the ball but struggled to break down a resolute Wolves side desperate to truly kickstart their own campaign. City’s breakthrough came via a moment of genius as his free kick found the top corner of Jose Sa’s goal.
