Who is Daniil Medvedev’s wife and No 1 supporter Daria

The increasingly popular top ten star Daniil Medvedev has the kind of support many players dream of having when it comes to family and tennis in the form of his loving wife Daria.

According to Russian naming conventions, Daria will often be referred to by the diminutive form of her name as a nickname in this case Dasha.

Medvedev has heralded the work she does in supporting him to make sure that he can be out on tour and focused on playing success.

“She’s one of the most important members of my team,” the former No 1 told the press some time ago.

Medvedev first met his wife back in 2014. Four years later, in September 2018, they were married in an intimate wedding. The couple welcomed Alisa, a baby daughter, as their first child in October 2022. With a cute Instagram picture of the young daughter dozing off, the tennis player revealed the news of his child’s birth to the world, much to the delight of his fans.

While she didn’t reach the heights her husband did, Daria was once an aspiring tennis professional herself which gives her a far better understanding of his career than many other partners.

He says that having a wife who understands tennis has not only helped him become a better player but it has also presented him with opportunities to become a better person through her unique insights.

“Nevertheless, it’s great that she understands tennis,” he said.

“She knows that we can’t go shopping before the game. Understands that I can be busy from 8 am until the evening.”

“Perhaps it’s not easy to get used to it when you don’t understand anything in tennis. It helped me to become better as a person and a player.”

While they were youngsters playing competitive tennis together, Daniil got to know his future wife. When they were 14 years old, the two even lived together at a home in Norway while away at a tennis acadmey.

Although their careers were progressing, Daria finally quit the sport at the age of eighteen due to a series of injuries.

After Daniil messaged Daria on Instagram in 2014, they talked about tennis and eventually exchanged phone numbers. Other than being amazed at how far the young chap she had formerly trained with had progressed in his profession, Daria didn’t give it much thought.

It wasn’t until Daria went to Nice, France, to meet with a seamstress that the two became official again. Daria met Daniil, who was then based in Antibes, on her trip, and the rest is history.

Medvedev believes that the moment he proposed to Daria his career and life really took of and he insists it was the best decision of his life.

“She gave me a lot of confidence,” he said. “I always say that it’s the moment I made the proposal to her, that’s when I started to go up.

“I’m talking about small things in life that would take my attention, she cares about them, and I just have to play tennis and win some matches.”
